It’s completely normal to fall into a “rut.” Last year, this happened to me during the Cubs world series, and for many, it happens around the holidays. Transitioning into springtime, people start to create summer plans and imagine what they’ll look like come May 31.
Fitsperation, or “fitspo” can come in many forms. Most think of it in the form of a person, as in, a person with a body that is serious GOALS. A healthier, less-judgmental form of fitspo can come with things you collect.
Here is my list of recommended products to keep you envisioning the best version of you, while revamping your regimen.
Journal
Planning and tracking meals and workouts is a huge factor in success, mainly due to the added accountability. While your journal can’t speak back at you for eating a donut in the break room at work, it is so much harder to reach for those indulgences when you have to write it down!
Start the week with your grocery list and a scheduled out weekly calendar filled with new recipes to try. New, healthy recipes with seasonal ingredients always motivate me to jump into the kitchen and start experimenting as if I’m a Top Chef contestant in a Quickfire Challenge. Tone It Up makes this pre-prep step super easy, with a bulleted list of what to prep on Sunday, a grocery list, and a completely planned weekly calendar. I typically take this as a guideline, and create my own calendar to adapt to my schedule.
This journal should inspire you each day when you write in it. While sippin’ on your matcha or coffee, it should make you smile and enhance your Can-Do attitude. Whether it be your favorite color or has a quote embossed in the front; the options are endless.
Water Bottle
Want more energy? Drink water. Want to detox? Drink water. Want to improve your skin? Drink water. It’s common knowledge that water is the elixir for good health. While we’re supposed to drink up to half our body weight in ounces of water each day, it is so easy to neglect and reach for a soda instead.
Setting an alarm is a great trick to remember to drink up, but how about a visual reminder as well? Many love to sip on water bottles with measurement lines, as to accurately count the number of ounces. Decorative, Insulated bottles are a great option as well. My S’well bottle looks like a tropical paradise. Paradise for me = bikinis, and bikinis = a visualization of my goal brought to life this summer. Investing in a good water bottle is better for you, better for the environment, and can subconsciously encourage more sips.
Wristband
Fitbits and Apple Watches alike, these accessories not only track your mileage and workouts, but also keep you motivated throughout the day with reminders to move. They’re completely customizable (varying based on the version you purchase) to match your fitness preferences. While I’m a Fitbit alta owner and lover, many people live by these and never ever take them off. My advice is to take a break now and then, so you don’t get too obsessed!
New…Anything!
Yes, I may justify many of my (unnecessary) purchases, but I promise you, there is some sort of science behind buying new gear and rushing to the gym. New sneakers, workout outfits, a yoga mat or even head phones can kick start a new routine. While you may not be a runner, I can almost guarantee you’ll feel inclined to head out for a quick jog in your new kicks. It just happens. By simply setting goals, you’ve committed, and you deserve a reward for reaching this point.
Continue to reward yourself while tracking progress. Within budget, take the items piled up in your shopping cart and finally press the place order button! Playing dress up in spandex can be just as fun as heels, especially when you have a new toned physique to show off!
Pressing reset means creating a blank canvas and starting fresh. You never know where you may find fitspo, but your new collection of items can provide continuous reminders of your goals. With these items on hand, success isn’t far out of reach. You’re just one step, one sip and one stroke of a pen away.
